Kavala is a lovely city in Greece’s northwestern region. Some say it is the most picturesque in Greece.
Since antiquity, the city has seen the reigns of the Romans, the Byzantines, the Bulgarians, and the Ottomans.
Today, in addition to the city’s rich historical remnants, Kavala catches your eye due to its contemporary look, brought in by street art.
Walking through Kavala’s streets, you get the impression that you are being watched, because there are eyes everywhere. On the windows, front doors of garages, the walls.
Every city has its secrets. Residents tell tales and urban legends that are passed from person to person.

But why are these eyes crying with blood tears? Some think that they are crying for Cyprus and that they will be removed as soon as it is freed.
Apparently, Diro is the pseudonym of the artist behind them. As a Kavala-based artist, Diro’s real name remains unknown. Protecting his anonymity, his signature seems to be the black blood tiered eyes of Kavala.
