The Ancient Drama Workshop organizes for the 6th consecutive year the DI.PE.THE. Kavala, as a member of the International Network of Ancient Drama.

This original camp in the Krinides area, started on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Philippi Festival in 2017.

It returns this year with the presentation of a complete performance of an ancient drama, for the first time based on an Aristophanic text.

Georgia Mavragani and her team will present the result of their work on the Frogs of the great comic poet. The performance will be given on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at 09:00 pm, with free admission for the public.

It will be preceded on Friday and Saturday, August 19 and 20, 2022, at the same time by a two-day seminar with translator Demosthenes Papamarkou as speaker.

On the first day, the seminar participants will attend a lecture by the historian and writer Demosthenes Papamarkos on the geography and mythology of the Underworld as well as an attempt to reenact scenes from Aristophanes’ play “Frogs” directed by Georgia Mavragani. On the second day, the open rehearsal of the play will be watched and a discussion will follow.
