To commemorate the International Childhood Cancer Day, which is celebrated every year on February 15, tavern owner Yiannis Sarris of Kavala, Macedonia, will donate all of his shop’s proceeds to Kavala’s Cancer Council to help fight childhood cancer.
On Monday, February 18, 2019, those who choose to eat at “Στο Κουτούκι του Σαρρή,” a tavern in the city center, will be helping a great cause, as all money raised on the day will be donated directly to the Cancer Council in Kavala.
Instead of just donating profits or staff wages, Yiannis decided to take it a step further and donate all of his takings from the till on Monday to help fight the disease.

According to statistics, approximately 300,000 children worldwide suffer from various forms of cancer, with 80 percent of them coming from middle and low-income families.
In Greece, approximately 300 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, primarily leukemia, and 70% of them are cured due to the availability of treatment and trained specialists. In contrast, third-world mortality rates are extremely high.
