Quiet hours in Greece have changed since October 1st, and for those who do not know, disturbing the peace is a crime. The authorities apply a fast-track procedure provided for in the Code of Criminal Procedure for Offenders.

According to a 1996 police order, the usual quiet hours during the winter season are 15:30 to 17:30 and 22:00 to 07:30. Winter time starts on October 1st and ends on March 31st.

During the general quiet hours, work or other activities that create noise are prohibited. In exceptional urgent cases, which cannot be postponed, with a special reasoned permission from the head of the relevant police department, the performance of work, especially of a socially beneficial nature, which causes noise, may be permitted.

The use of a musical instrument or radio or television at high volume, shouting, loud dancing and any other noisy events in a dwelling or other private premises are prohibited. Noisy games in cafes, bowling alleys or other public centers, as well as shouting and high-pitched discussions by visitors to these centers.
