On Wednesday, a police officer accused of shooting at and injuring two illegal immigrants during an arrest operation in a forest appeared before a prosecutor in Kavala.
The officer was part of a police team that saw a group of 30 people, including migrants and smugglers, disembarking from a truck traveling on the old Thessaloniki-Kavala highway late on Tuesday.
The officer allegedly fired “warning shots” while attempting to arrest the individuals.
Two of the nine migrants arrested were found to have wounds to the right shoulder and right arm as a result of the shooting.
The injured were taken to a hospital in Kavala for treatment.
The police investigation is still ongoing.
