Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), beloved the world over, has an inimitable legacy with a reign spanning over seventy years. Among the great patrons of the arts, the Queen was also inspiration to many of the leading artists of our time, not least Lucian Freud.
Her Majesty is pictured here sitting for Freud at St. James’s Palace in 2001, for a painting considered “The Finest Royal Portrait for 150 years” – captured in time by Freud’s studio assistant and fellow artist, David Dawson.
