The GCG lifted the ban as the very strong winds weakened. Ships and ferries started to sail from the port of Rafina and Lavrion.

However, as the strong winds are expected to continue in the following day, it is wise to Contact with Local Port Authorities.

Friday morning, the GCG banned departures form the following ports:

  • ferries and ships departing from the ports of Rafina and Lavrio with destination the Cyclades islands and Marmari;
  • departures from the port of Kavala to Prinos;
  • departures of speedboats from Alexandroupolis to Samothraki.

There is not ban for ferries and ships departing the port of Piraeus.

In a press release, the Coast Guard additionally notes that it is possible that captains may decide to cancel or postpone travels also from ports that are not banned due to weather conditions.

Travelers should check with local port authorities, the statement stresses.

Stormy winds have lead to significant temperature decrease mainly in the east and south parts of the country, meteorologists have forecast rain- and thunderstorms and very strong winds for the following days.
