In what can only be described as a family tragedy that has shocked an entire community, an elderly couple was stabbed to death multiple times by their grandson in their Kavala home.
According to reports, the 24-year-old was known to have psychological issues and had previously been hospitalized in a psychiatric facility before confessing to the double murder.
The young man, whose mother has died and he has no relationship with his father, was residing with his 85-year-old, retired grandfather and his 80-year-old, gravely ill grandmother.
Relatives who live in the same apartment building told police they did not hear any noises; however, when one of them went to visit them at 11:00 a.m., they were horrified by the scene they discovered.
Family members immediately suspected the grandson was the assailant and notified law enforcement. The grandson confessed to authorities that he had committed the double homicide.
He did not explain what motivated him to murder the people who cared for him, nor did he describe how he committed the murders.
Two elderly individuals were transported to a hospital in Kavala, where a necropsy is being performed to determine the number of stab wounds and the time of death.
